The Marshall Barristers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their fifth straight loss. They took a serious blow against Eagle Rock, falling 61-28. Marshall has not had much luck with Eagle Rock recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
When it comes to explaining why Marshall lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jeda Taylor. Despite the final result, she scored 20 points along with seven rebounds and seven blocks. Taylor is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season.
Marshall struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Eagle Rock posted 18 assists.
Eagle Rock found their leader in underclassman Nylah Moore, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 15 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Moore scored 15 or more points. MarySol Jernigan was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Marshall bumped their record down to 4-9 with that defeat, which was their third straight at home. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 28.3 points per game. As for Eagle Rock, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season.
Marshall will head out on the road to challenge Bravo at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Bravo is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak. As for Eagle Rock, they will be playing at home against Lincoln at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Lincoln will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 748th, while Eagle Rock is ranked 255th).
