The Edgewood Warriors will challenge the Struthers Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Edgewood has struggled recently with four defeats in a row, while Struthers will arrive with three straight victories.
Geneva hit Edgewood with a nine-run fifth inning on Saturday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Warriors might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 12-0 to the Eagles, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since April 30, 2024, but that streak is no more.
Meanwhile, Struthers got the win against Salem on Saturday by a conclusive 14-6.
Drew Chizmar and Travis McMurray were major factors while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Chizmar tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Meanwhile, McMurray tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Chizmar has become a key player for Struthers: the team is 3-1 when he allows at most two hits, but 8-13 otherwise. At the plate, Chizmar got on base in three of his five plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while McMurray got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most runs Chizmar has posted since back in April of 2025.
In other batting news, Jordan Becker was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Struthers' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 9-13 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Michael Scavnicky, who went 2-for-5 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Struthers was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .414. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in four consecutive matchups.
Edgewood's loss dropped their record down to 5-15. As for Struthers, their record now sits at 11-14.
Edgewood might still be hurting after the 9-0 defeat they got from Struthers when the teams last played back in May of 2025. Can the Warriors avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
