Basketball Recap: Hesperia Piles Up the Points Against Silverado

A well-balanced attack led Hesperia over Silverado in every quarter on their way to victory on Saturday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Hesperia Scorpions blew the Silverado Hawks out of the water with an 80-38 final score. With the Scorpions ahead 38-16 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.

Leading Hesperia to victory were Berlynn Miramontes and Paris Leonard. Miramontes went 8 for 18 on her way to 20 points in addition to eight assists and three steals, while Leonard went 8 of 13 en route to 19 points along with five boards and three steals. That's the most points Leonard has posted since back in November of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Jocelyne Lerma, who posted 11 points.

Hesperia smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in nine consecutive contests.

Several Hawks players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Nitzel Cuen, who had 16 points. Another player making a difference was Song Fields, who scored 12 points.

Hesperia has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-12 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.4 points per game. As for Silverado, the loss snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 11-9 record.

Hesperia has already played their next match, a 64-49 defeat against Burroughs on the 28th. As for Silverado, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 56-41 victory against Adelanto on the 31st.
