Southwest SD and Chula Vista are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2017, but likely not for long. The Raiders will be playing at home against the Spartans at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Southwest SD was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last matchup, but they sure didn't let that happen against High Tech CV on Saturday. The Raiders blew past the Bruins 12-2. The result was nothing new for the Raiders, who have now won seven games by seven runs or more so far this season.
Aaron Diaz made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Southwest SD is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 6-8-1 otherwise. Diaz was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Southwest SD always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .590. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Chula Vista entered their tilt with Holtville on Saturday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They came out on top against the Vikings by a score of 13-10.
Like Southwest SD, Chula Vista also got a great game from a two-way player: Noah Gomez. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Gomez has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs.
In other batting news, Chula Vista got a massive performance out of Gabriel Mendoza, who went 4-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Joe Alterado, who went 4-for-5 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
Chula Vista's victory bumped their record up to 9-6-2. As for Southwest SD, their win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 9-8-1.
Southwest SD suffered a grim 10-3 defeat to Chula Vista in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Raiders avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
