Delta extended their winning streak to five on Thursday, bumping them up to 7-3. Everything went their way against the Gunnison Cowboys as they made off with a 12-3 win. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matches by six runs or more this season.
Olivia Hines made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. What's more, she posted four strikeouts, the most she's had since back in October of 2024. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run was her first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jazlyn Naranjo, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Sophia Siennicki also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
As for Gunnison, their defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 4-4. They haven't had much luck with Delta recently, as the team has come up short the last seven times they've met.
On Gunnison's side, Caroline Sudderth was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs and one double. Kaylee Vincent was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Coming up, Delta will head out on the road to take on Montrose at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. The Red Hawks' pitching crew has only allowed 2.8 runs per game this season, so the Panthers' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Gunnison, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Cedaredge at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Cowboys' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bruins have averaged an impressive 13.1 runs per game this season.
