After flying high against the Elk Grove Thundering Herd on Friday, the St. Francis Troubadours came back down to earth. St. Francis took a 45-36 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wildcats on Saturday. While losing is never fun, St. Francis can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 303rd, while the Wildcats are ranked 51st).
St. Francis lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Chidera Okoye, who scored six points along with 17 rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Bria McGahan, who scored nine points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Whitney was led to victory by Harper Peterson and Tylie Kitchen. Peterson dropped a double-double on 13 points and 14 rebounds, while Kitchen dropped a double-double on 13 points and 12 rebounds. Kitchen has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last five times she's played. Sammy Schuler was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with two steals.
St. Francis' loss dropped their record down to 11-13. As for Whitney, their victory bumped their record up to 18-8.
St. Francis is on the road again on Monday and plays the Blue Devils at 6:30 p.m. on February 5th. Davis Sr. will be looking to keep their six-game home win streak alive. Whitney will take on the Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Folsom will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak.
