Basketball Game Preview: Chino Cowboys vs. Montclair Cavaliers

Chino is 9-1 against Montclair since January of 2020 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Chino Cowboys will venture away from home to face off against the Montclair Cavaliers at 5:30 p.m. Chino is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.6 points per game this season.

Chino is headed into the game after thoroughly thrashing Don Lugo: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Chino blew Don Lugo out of the water with a 64-18 final score. With the Cowboys ahead 41-11 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.

It was another big night for Tess Oldenburg, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten steals. That's the most steals she has posted since back in January of 2024. Zhya Holyfield was another key player, putting up 13 points in addition to eight steals and six assists.

Meanwhile, Montclair suffered their biggest loss since January 25, 2024 on Wednesday. They were outmatched by Ontario and fell 50-22. While losing is never fun, the Cavaliers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1005th, while the Jaguars are ranked 420th).

Chino pushed their record up to 13-5 with the win, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.2 points per game. As for Montclair, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-12 record this season.

Everything came up roses for Chino against Montclair in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, as the team secured a 75-32 victory. Does Chino have another victory up their sleeve, or will Montclair turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
