The Valencia Vikings will head out on the road to square off against the Saugus Centurions at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Valencia is hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses.
Valencia suffered their biggest defeat since December 22, 2023 on Friday. They were the victim of a tough 74-53 defeat at the hands of Hart. Valencia was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 44-23.
Despite the loss, Valencia saw an underclassman step up: Keira McLaughlin scored 16 points along with nine rebounds. Another player making a difference was Libby Oxciano, who scored 19 points.
Meanwhile, Saugus came tearing into Friday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 26 points) and they left with even more momentum. They managed a 52-47 victory over Canyon.
Valencia's defeat dropped their record down to 8-13. As for Saugus, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-8 record this season.
Valencia didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Saugus in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, but they still walked away with a 48-43 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Valencia since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
