Mt. Diablo let Joel Zamora Martinez and Ramel Andrews run wild. Zamora Martinez went 2-for-3 with two runs, while Andrews got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. Mt. Diablo is undefeated when Zamora Martinez posts two or more runs, but 1-4 otherwise.
Meanwhile, after low-scoring totals in their previous three game, Hercules brought some dynamite into their most recent contest. They were the clear victors by an 18-3 margin over Ygnacio Valley on Wednesday. The victory continues a trend for the Titans in their matchups with the Wolves: they've now won four in a row.
Chriatian Vargas was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Vargas was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and one run. That run marked the first that he has scored this season.
In other batting news, Hercules got a massive performance out of Rrion Walker, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Those three stolen bases gave Walker a new career-high. Cameron Solis was another key player, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with six stolen bases, four runs, and one RBI.
Hercules always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .614. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
The win got Mt. Diablo back to even at 4-4. As for Hercules, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-8.
Hercules' hitters will have their work cut out for them on Thursday. Mt. Diablo has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.1 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Hercules, though, as they've been averaging only 3.1 strikeouts. Will Mt. Diablo keep running through batters, or will the Titans buck the trend?
Mt. Diablo suffered a grim 11-3 defeat to Hercules in their previous matchup back in April of 2023. Will the Red Devils have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other baseball content.
