The Brighton Cardinals will head out on the road to square off against the Millington Central Trojans at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Brighton focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Friday.
Brighton can finally bid farewell to their six-game losing streak thanks to their game. They took down Craigmont 43-27. Winning is a bit easier when your three-point shooting is a whole 20% better than the opposition, as Brighton's was.
Brighton's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jayla Jones, who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds. Da'lyjah Maclin was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, Millington Central ended up a good deal behind Newton on Monday and lost 58-43. Millington Central has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Bailey Boone, who scored 13 points. Another player making a difference was Alana Whiten, who scored ten points.
Brighton's victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-14. As for Millington Central, their loss dropped their record down to 9-8.
Friday's match is shaping up to be a scrappy contest: Brighton have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 28.4 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Millington Central, though, as they've been averaging only 20.2 rebounds per game. Given Brighton's sizeable advantage in that area, Millington Central will need to find a way to close that gap.
Brighton lost to Millington Central on the road by a decisive 42-25 margin when the teams last played back in January of 2023. Can Brighton avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
