District titles up for grabs in top Week 10 Texas high school football match-ups

Not since 2007 has Aledo lost a district football game. The Bearcats' streak of 66 consecutive league wins will be put to the test by Northwest (Justin) in a District 6-5A match-up of Fort Worth-area teams with 8-0 records.

Aledo-Northwest tops the list of Week 10 top encounters that includes several games that could decide district titles.


1. Aledo 8-0 at Northwest (Justin) 8-0
7 p.m. Friday
Aledo puts its district winning streak on the line in a showdown of talented quarterbacks, senior Dillon Davis (2,002 passing yards, 27 touchdowns) for Aledo and junior Prince Mavula (2,140, 25) for the Texans. During its current district winning streak, Aledo has gone on to capture five state championships. Northwest is rebounding from a 1-9 season a year ago while in Class 6A.

2. Midland 7-1 at San Angelo Central (San Angelo) 8-0
7:30 p.m. Friday
Both teams are 4-0 in District 2-6A thanks in part to dual-threat quarterbacks. Jackson Anuszkiewicz has thrown for 2,105 yards and 24 touchdowns while rushing for 403 yards and six touchdowns for Midland. Cal Vincent has passed for 1,879 yards and 26 touchdowns to go with 542 rushing yards for the hosts. Midland's only loss came at the hands of unbeaten DeSoto, 49-43.

3. Cy-Ridge (Houston) 7-1 at Cypress Ranch (Houston) 8-0
7 p.m. Friday
Cy-Ridge is 6-1 in District 17-6A and trails 7-0 Cy-Ranch by one game in the standings. Senior running back Trelon Smith, an Arizona State pledge, is the top weapon for Cy-Ridge with 1,293 rushing yards and 19 touchdowns. Cy-Ranch boasts more offensive balance but has a top running back of its own in R.J. SneedE.J. Thompson (778 yards, eight touchdowns). 4. New Caney 7-1 at Porter 7-0
7 p.m. Friday
Both teams come into this District 21-5A showdown with 6-0 league records and share a common strength -- efficient quarterback play. Jordan Cooper, a junior, has thrown for 1,459 yards and 15 touchdowns for New Caney. Jake Hall, a Porter senior, has passed for 1,736 yards and 19 touchdowns.

5. Teague 7-1 at Malakoff 8-0
7:30 p.m. Friday
Junior Antonio Heard, a UAB pledge, has accumulated 1,050 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns for Teague. Malakoff threatens with the passing combination of Judd Miller to QT Barker. Both teams are 5-0 in District 9-3A DI. Teague defeated Malakoff each of the last two seasons.

6. Liberty 8-1 at West Orange-Stark (Orange) 8-0
7:30 p.m. Friday
The winning streak for defending Class 4A-DII state champion West Orange-Stark stands at 19 games including a 2-0 record in District 12-4A DII. Liberty, blanked 49-0 a year ago in this game, will need a big tackling effort from linebacker Tyris Williams and tough running from Alex Brown. Liberty is 2-1 in league play.

7. Bovina 8-0 at Farwell 7-1
7:30 p.m. Friday
Each team is 3-0 in District 3-2A DII. Bovina, winless in district a year ago, boasts the passing combination of Daniel Lara to Bryan DeLaTorre. Farwell, plagued by injuries a year ago, has taken advantage of a bi-product, greater depth this fall at the skill positions.

8. Alamo Heights (San Antonio) 7-1 at Boerne-Champion (Boerne) 7-1
7:30 p.m. Friday
Alamo Heights, 4-1 in District 26-5A, has thrived on the passing arm of quarterback Will Chaney (2,027 yards, 18 touchdowns). Champion quarterback Davis Brin has fueled the champion's 5-0 district mark with 2,065 passing yards and 17 touchdowns.

9. College Station 9-0 at Temple 6-2
7:30 p.m. Friday
Dual-threat quarterback Marquez Perez has accumulated 1,799 combined yards and 25 touchdowns for College Station, 5-0 in District 18-5A. Temple, 4-0 in league play, boasts a top receiving threat in D'yonte Heckstall (34 catches, 628 yards).

10. New Deal 8-0 at Abernathy 6-2
7:30 p.m. Friday
Freshman Bryson Daily leads Abernathy with 865 yards and 11 touchdowns. Out to stop him will be New Deal junior Brandon Coronado, the Lions leading tackler with 58 solos and 10 assists. Both teams are 3-0 in District 2-2A DI.
