JW North is 9-1 against Rancho Verde since March of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The JW North Huskies will head out to take on the Rancho Verde Mustangs at 10:00 a.m.
JW North is headed into Saturday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fifth straight game dating back to last season last Thursday. They came up short against King, falling 14-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Huskies have suffered since April 5, 2024.
Jason Anderson made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one triple and one RBI.
While Rancho Verde didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-15-1), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They blew past Arroyo Valley 9-3 on Thursday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Mustangs.
David Hernandez and Hector Rivas made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Hernandez pitched two innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. Meanwhile, Rivas tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. What's more, Hernandez posted two strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March of 2024. At the plate, Hernandez scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances, while Rivas scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2. That run was Rivas' first of the season.
In other batting news, Abraham Manzo was incredible, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Caden Coppola, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Rancho Verde's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs over those games. As for JW North, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.
JW North beat Rancho Verde 5-1 in their previous matchup back in May of 2018. The rematch might be a little tougher for JW North since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
