The Chavez Titans waltzed into their contest on Thursday with four straight wins but they left with five. They came out on top against Kennedy by a score of 56-47. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Chavez also won the last time the pair played back in February of 2023.
Despite the loss, Kennedy had strong showings from Valeria Payan-Medina, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 14 rebounds, and Kayleen Maes, who scored 18 points along with seven rebounds. That's the first time this season that Payan-Medina scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Imaree Curry, who scored nine points along with eight rebounds.
Chavez has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-8 record this season. As for Kennedy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-11.
Chavez will be playing in front of their home fans against Shafter at 6:15 p.m. on Monday. Shafter is looking to tack on another W to their four-game streak on the road. As for Kennedy, they will take on Taft at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Taft focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up six last Tuesday.
