The Phillips Wildcats will take on the Richwoods Knights in a holiday battle at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday at. Phillips knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three games -- so hopefully Richwoods likes a good challenge.
Even though Lincoln Park scored an imposing 74 points on Monday, Phillips still came out on top. Phillips secured a 79-74 W over Lincoln Park. The win was all the more spectacular given Phillips' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 183rd, while Lincoln Park is ranked 43rd).
Phillips relied on the efforts of Lawrence Horton, who dropped a double-double on 28 points and 11 rebounds, and Amari Edwards, who scored 24 points along with five assists and five rebounds. Those 11 rebounds set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Phoenix Childs, who scored seven points along with 16 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Richwoods unfortunately witnessed the end of their six-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell just short of Hyde Park by a score of 49-46. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Richwoods has scored all season.
The victory got Phillips back to even at 5-5. As for Richwoods, their loss dropped their record down to 8-2.
