New Castle has been on the road for two straight, but on Friday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Yorktown Tigers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
New Castle pushed their score all the way to 59 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 65-59 hit to the loss column at the hands of Tri. While losing is never fun, New Castle can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 324th, while Tri is ranked 100th).
Meanwhile, winning is just a little bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 13 to 1 on the offensive boards, a fact Yorktown proved on Tuesday. They slipped by Frankton 47-46.
Yorktown's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Addy Barnes, who scored 14 points along with two steals. Lilly Sylvester was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with six rebounds.
New Castle has been struggling recently, as they've lost 12 of their last 13 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-17 record this season. As for Yorktown, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 12-8 record this season.
New Castle was taken down by Yorktown 70-37 in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. The game was all but decided by halftime, at which point New Castle was down 29-6.
