Basketball Recap: Make It Five in a Row for Segerstrom

Segerstrom waltzed into their game on Saturday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They came out on top against the Santa Fe Chiefs by a score of 50-42. For the Jaguars, this counts as revenge for the 46-40 victory the Chiefs walked away with the last time they faced one another back in December of 2019.

Segerstrom got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Claudia Solis out in front who went 6 of 15 on her way to 14 points and five steals. Solis has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of April Valenciano, who posted 13 points along with six steals and five assists.

Segerstrom smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 16 consecutive matches.

Despite the loss, Santa Fe still got an impressive performance from Abigail Cetina, who shot 4-for-5 from beyond the arc and dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds. That's the most boards Cetina has posted since back in January of 2024. Roxy Beltran was another key player, putting up six points and five steals.

Segerstrom has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-3 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.6 points per game. As for Santa Fe, they moved to 12-2 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Segerstrom didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 50-44 victory against Upland on the 28th. As for Santa Fe, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 67-19 win against Edgewood on the 28th.
