Bishop Neumann extended their winning streak (dating back to last season) to 21 on Thursday, bumping them up to 9-0. They came out on top against the Fort Calhoun Pioneers by a score of 10-7. The Cavaliers have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Pioneers, too.
Addison Sylliaasen spent all ten innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on nine hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Bishop Neumann got a big performance out of Abby Furasek, who got on base in five of her six plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI. The dominant performance also gave Furasek a new career-high in hits (three). Aubree Milliken was another key player, going 2-for-5 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Bishop Neumann kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits every time they've taken the field this season.
Having lost for the first time this season, Fort Calhoun fell to 6-1. The loss was their first of the season.
On Fort Calhoun's side, Tacey Belina was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits. Belina was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Emily Warfield made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 3-for-5 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Izabelle Greenough, who earned one RBI, one run, and one stolen base.
Looking ahead, Bishop Neumann will take on Grand Island Central Catholic in a tournament on Saturday. As for Fort Calhoun, they will welcome Elkhorn North at 2:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Pioneers 3.1, the Wolves 3.1) so any runs scored will be well earned.
