Baseball Recap: Make It Four in a Row for Marcellus

Marcellus had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 16.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They put the hurt on the Bloomingdale Cardinals with a sharp 16-1 victory. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 18-1 on Friday.

Seth Barrera was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Marcellus is 8-2 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 6-7 otherwise. Barrera was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.

In other batting news, Cale Hackenberg was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two triples, five RBI, and two runs. Marcellus is undefeated when Hackenberg posts two or more runs, but 5-9 otherwise. Zade Tyska was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Marcellus kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.2 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 10.

Marcellus' win bumped their record up to 14-9. As for Bloomingdale, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-17.

Looking ahead, Marcellus will be playing in front of their home fans against Three Rivers at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Bloomingdale, they are taking a road trip to square off against Lawton at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Blue Devils have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.5 runs per game on average), something the Cardinals will no doubt try to take advantage of.
