The Somers Spartans will face off against the Coventry Patriots at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Somers 3.9, Coventry 1.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Somers' pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Saturday. They walked away with a 5-0 win over East Windsor. The Spartans haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.
The result came thanks to Brodie White's shutout, as he gave up just a hit and racked up six Ks.
At the plate, Somers saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was CJ Hwalek, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI. Another was Brandon Damboragian, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, Coventry got the win against Woodstock Academy on Friday by a conclusive 11-1. The result was nothing new for the Patriots, who have now won 14 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
The team relied heavily on Dustin Menzel, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. Mather Spear was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Coventry was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .321 or higher in eight consecutive games.
Coventry's win bumped their record up to 17-1. As for Somers, their victory bumped their record up to 14-3.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Somers has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Coventry struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 5.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Somers came up short against Coventry in their previous matchup on Monday, falling 8-5. Will the Spartans have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other baseball content.
