Buena Vista and Meeker are an even 3-3 against one another since November of 2019, but not for long. The Demons will be playing in front of their home fans against the Cowboys at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Buena Vista will come into the game with an undefeated record on the line.
Buena Vista is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They blew past Holyoke, posting a 48-14 win. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Demons' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado football rankings (they are ranked 22nd, while the Dragons are ranked 119th).
Eli Schuknecht was his usual excellent self, rushing for 130 yards and two scores on only ten carries. His longest rush was for an impressive 52 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Buena Vista was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 305 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 183 rushing yards in six consecutive contests.
Another reason for the win was Buena Vista's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Abel Flowers, Casius Ortlet, and Logan Scott, who each picked up one sack apiece. Another thorn in Holyoke's side was Flowers, who picked up a sack and made eight total tackles (4.0 for loss) in addition to snagging an interception.
Meanwhile, Meeker got the win against Platte Valley on Saturday by a conclusive 41-18. The Cowboys might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matchups by 23 points or more this season.
Buena Vista's record now sits at 10-0. As for Meeker, their record is now 8-2.
Saturday's game might be decided on the ground. Buena Vista has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 210.9 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Meeker struggles in that department as they've been averaging 298.3 rushing yards. There's a good chance Saturday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Buena Vista suffered a grim 28-7 defeat to Meeker when the teams last played back in November of 2023. That matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point the Demons were down 21-0.
