After flying high against the Boyd County Spartans last Saturday, the Elkhorn Valley Falcons came back down to earth. Elkhorn Valley fell to the Cougars 59-54. Elkhorn Valley has struggled against the Cougars recently, as their matchup on Monday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the loss, Elkhorn Valley still got an impressive performance from Jj Black, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 15 rebounds. Black is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down ten or more in the last seven games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Karlee Broberg, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Josilyn Miller was her usual excellent self, almost dropping a double-double on 36 points and nine rebounds for Niobrara/Verdigre. That makes it five consecutive games in which Miller has scored at least a third of Niobrara/Verdigre's points. Another player making a difference was Summer Vesely, who scored nine points.
Elkhorn Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 10-6. As for Niobrara/Verdigre, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season.
Elkhorn Valley will head out on the road to face off against the Trojans at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Cedar Catholic will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak. As for Niobrara/Verdigre, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against the Cardinals at 5:00 p.m. Hopefully St. Mary's focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 23 on Monday.
