Basketball Game Preview: JW North Huskies vs. Rancho Verde Mustangs

The JW North Huskies will face off against the Rancho Verde Mustangs at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Last Thursday, JW North lost to Canyon Springs at home by a 45-30 margin. While losing is never fun, the Huskies can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1132nd, while the Cougars are ranked 417th).

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Maya Marmolejo, who posted 11 points. She has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Avery Aguilar, who scored eight points and three steals.

Even though they lost, JW North smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in six consecutive games.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Rancho Verde, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They simply couldn't be stopped on Thursday as they easily beat Orange Vista 63-24.

Rancho Verde's win bumped their record up to 11-9. As for JW North, they have also traveled a rocky road recently having lost nine of their last 11 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-14 record this season.
