The Great Oak Wolfpack came tearing into Tuesday's contest with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 21 points) and they left with even more momentum. They enjoyed a cozy 64-46 win over Chaparral. Given Great Oak's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 205th, while Chaparral is ranked 439th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Great Oak to victory, but perhaps none more so than Bri Thomas, who scored 19 points along with six rebounds and three blocks. Thomas is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylor Fuson, who scored 14 points.
When it comes to explaining why Chaparral lost, one person who can't be blamed is Zetta Faasua. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 25 points and 12 rebounds. Myla Igoe was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Great Oak has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten games, which provided a massive bump to their 11-6 record this season. As for Chaparral, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-8.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Great Oak will take on Temecula Valley at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Chaparral, they will play host again and welcome Murrieta Valley, where tip off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Murrieta Valley's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three matches.
