The Gothenburg Swedes will head out on the road to square off against the Ainsworth Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Tuesday, Gothenburg lost to Ogallala on the road by a decisive 75-61 margin.
Meanwhile, Ainsworth had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They breezed by Stuart on the road to the tune of 58-29. Given Ainsworth's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 75th, while Stuart is ranked 205th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Ainsworth's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Karli Kral led the charge by dropping a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds. Another player making a difference was Jocelyn Good, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds.
Gothenburg's defeat dropped their record down to 16-5. As for Ainsworth, they pushed their record up to 12-8 with that victory, which was their fourth straight on the road.
Gothenburg took their win against Ainsworth in their previous meeting back in February of 2023 by a conclusive 52-30. The rematch might be a little tougher for Gothenburg since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
