The Sanger West Hornets lost against the Torres Toros back in February of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. Sanger West fell 45-32 to Torres. While losing is never fun, Sanger West can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 984th, while Torres is ranked 416th).
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Torres to victory, but perhaps none more so than Sabrina Cerrillo, who scored 12 points along with eight steals and five rebounds. Cerrillo hasn't dropped below two steals for 12 straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of J'Lynn Mitchell, who scored nine points along with six rebounds and six steals.
Sanger West has not been sharp recently, as they've lost eight of their last ten matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-14 record this season. As for Torres, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 13-7.
Sanger West will look to defend their home court on Monday against Sunnyside at 6:30 p.m. Sunnyside is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak. As for Torres, they will head out on the road to take on Madera South at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
