The Foothill Knights's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their seventh straight loss. They were beaten by Villa Park 72-35. While losing is never fun, Foothill can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 695th, while Villa Park is ranked 254th).
Several Knights players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Paige Bak, who scored four points along with ten rebounds. Jay Perez was another key contributor, scoring two points along with six assists and five rebounds.
Even though they lost, Foothill smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. This was only their 14th loss (out of 19 games) when they hit their own glass that hard.
Marina Trumpour was a one-man wrecking crew for Villa Park as she scored 16 points along with six rebounds and five steals. That's the first time this season that Trumpour scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Olivia Sturdivant, who scored 11 points along with six assists and six rebounds.
Foothill has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost ten of their last 11 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-19 record this season. As for Villa Park, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 15-10.
Foothill will head out on the road to square off against El Dorado at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. El Dorado has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Villa Park, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Brea Olinda at 5:30 p.m.
