Baseball Recap: Paramount Snags Ninth Win in Last Ten Games

Paramount proved they can win big last Wednesday (they won by six) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out the Mary Star of the Sea Stars 1-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Pirates have posted since March 18th.

Jacob Quinones made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 13 over 8.2 innings pitched. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-5.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Nicholas Medina, who went 4-for-5 with one double. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. Brandon Martinez was another key player, getting on base in four of his six plate appearances.

Paramount hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in three consecutive games.

Paramount has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.6 runs over those games. As for Mary Star of the Sea, with the defeat, they broke their five-game winning streak and moved their record to 10-7.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Paramount will square off against Firebaugh at 3:15 p.m. on Friday. The Pirates are facing the Falcons at the right time seeing as the Falcons are stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Mary Star of the Sea, they will take on Bellflower at 3:15 p.m. on Friday. The Buccaneers will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Stars surely won't give up without a fight.
