The Sissonville Indians will square off against the Wayne Pioneers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Sissonville is coming into the game hot, having won their last 12 games.
Sissonville proved they can win big last Saturday (they won by nine) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 victory over Nitro. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Indians have posted since April 24th.
Sissonville saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Maddox Balog, who went 1-for-2 with one triple and one run. That triple marked the first that Balog has hit this season. Malyki Holtzman was another, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Wayne narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Poca 5-3. The Pioneers haven't had any issues with the Dots recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.
Jacob Thompson made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off two hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Eli Staley, who went 1-for-4 with one triple and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Avery Nicely, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base.
Sissonville's victory bumped their record up to 20-4. As for Wayne, their win bumped their record up to 9-23.
Wayne's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Sissonville has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .457. It's a different story for Wayne, though, as they've only averaged .346. Will they be able to contain Sissonville's hitters?
Sissonville got the 'W' in their previous meeting back in April against Wayne by a conclusive 10-0 score. Do the Indians have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Pioneers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
