Nathan Gonzales had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 317 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 12.2 yards per carry. That's the most rushing yards he has posted since back in November of 2024.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Mira Monte was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 314 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 157 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, McFarland played a tough contest two weeks ago in which they were outscored in every quarter. They came up short against Fowler, falling 41-21. The Cougars have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Mira Monte will need to focus on slowing down Malachi Davis, one of several McFarland players who made an impact when they last played. He threw for 282 yards and three TDs while picking up 12.3 yards per attempt, and also rushed for 38 yards. Julian Barajas was Davis' top target, picking up 125 receiving yards and one score.
Even if they lost, McFarland's defensive line still kept up the pressure with four sacks. Giovanni Rivera refused to say out of the backfield, picking up two sacks all by himself.
Mira Monte is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 34.7 points over those games. As for McFarland, the loss was their first on the road , dropping their record down to 6-4.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Mira Monte has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 264 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like McFarland struggles in that department as they've been averaging 157.2 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
