Rolling Hills Prep will face Port of Los Angeles after dropping another heartbreaker against Harbor Teacher on Tuesday, which marked the second time in a row the team's come within 2.1 of beating them. Alex Hernandez was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs while going 4-for-4. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. Max Sarner was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
Even though they lost, Rolling Hills Prep always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Port of Los Angeles wound up with the same score they had in their last game (6-4), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time.
Port of Los Angeles saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Steven Saenz, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Another was Ethan Vasquez, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.
Port of Los Angeles' defeat ended an eight-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 1-2. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Rolling Hills Prep, their loss dropped their record down to 0-3-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Rolling Hills Prep has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Port of Los Angeles struggles in that department as they've been averaging 10.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Rolling Hills Prep was able to grind out a solid victory over Port of Los Angeles in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, winning 5-1. Does Rolling Hills Prep have another victory up their sleeve, or will Port of Los Angeles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
