Baseball Game Preview: Pana Panthers vs. Litchfield Purple Panthers

For the first time this season, Pana will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Litchfield Purple Panthers at 4:30 p.m. Pana is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.

Pana will roll into the matchup after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs on Monday, then bounced right back against St. Elmo/Brownstown on Thursday. The Panthers were the clear victors by a 17-1 margin over the Eagles. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four contests by nine runs or more this season.

Brylan Miller made a splash no matter where he played. He tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five). He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one triple and two RBI. That triple was his first of the season.

In other batting news, Pana let Parker Moore and Harrison Cothern run wild. Moore got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, one double, and one RBI, while Cothern went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those three runs gave Moore a new career-high. Cash Lynch was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

The home team had won the previous three meetings between Litchfield and Jersey, and Jersey kept the tradition alive. The Purple Panthers fell 9-4 to the Panthers on Wednesday.

Litchfield has also traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-5 record this season. As for Pana, the victory got them back to even at 4-4.
