After a string of seven wins, the Coastal Christian Conquerors's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 40-39 to Valley Christian Academy. Coastal Christian was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Lions apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January.
Despite the loss, Coastal Christian still got an impressive performance from Jenna Starkovich, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 13 rebounds. Starkovich has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. Maggie Moore was another key contributor, scoring two points along with seven steals.
Even though they lost, Coastal Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Valley Christian Academy only pulled down nine offensive rebounds.
Valley Christian Academy found their leader in underclassman Katelyn Mikkelson, who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds. Another player making a difference was Samantha Walker, who scored six points.
Coastal Christian's defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-4. As for Valley Christian Academy, they pushed their record up to 10-10 with that win, which was their third straight at home.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Coastal Christian won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against the Broncos at 5:00 p.m. on February 2nd. Coast Union has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Valley Christian Academy, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Titans at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
