Aptos is a perfect 5-0 against Watsonville since April of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Mariners will host the Wildcatz at 3:30 p.m. Watsonville took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Aptos, who comes in off a win.
On Saturday, Aptos got the win against Los Altos by a conclusive 15-6. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Mariners.
Cole McGillicuddy was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. McGillicuddy was even better at the plate, going 2-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Tyler Brooks was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Dylan Bergh, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI.
Aptos always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .537. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Los Altos only posted an OBP of .306.
Meanwhile, Watsonville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss dating back to last season. They lost 21-0 to Castro Valley.
Watsonville saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Chris Sigala, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases.
Aptos' win bumped their record up to 2-0. As for Watsonville, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.
Aptos skirted past Watsonville 5-4 in their previous matchup back in May of 2021. Do the Mariners have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wildcatz turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
