The Soquel Knights suffered their biggest loss since December 8, 2023 on Friday. They suffered a rough 51-31 loss at the hands of Aptos. While losing is never fun, Soquel can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1084th, while Aptos is ranked 467th).
Aptos' win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Berkeley Ashby, who scored eight points along with six steals and five blocks. Laurel Southall was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Soquel has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-11 record this season. As for Aptos, their win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-7.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Soquel will take on Harbor at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The pair have had a bumpy ride up to this point with 11 consecutive losses for Harbor and four for Soquel. As for Aptos, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Summit Shasta at 4:00 p.m. on January 27th. Summit Shasta is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
