Basketball Recap: Orange Lutheran's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Tuesday

It was a good run, but Orange Lutheran unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They received a blow as they fell 57-40 to the Bonita Bearcats. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Lancers came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 13th, while the Bearcats are ranked 103rd).

Lexi Mercado was her usual excellent self, almost dropping a double-double on 23 points and nine rebounds for Bonita. The contest was Mercado's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Tressa Beatty was another key player, putting up 11 points along with five assists and five boards.

Orange Lutheran's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-2. As for Bonita, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Orange Lutheran will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Faith Lutheran at 4:00 p.m. on January 3, 2025. As for Bonita, they will hit the road for the first time this season to challenge Bishop Amat at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Bonita is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.4 points per game this season.
