St. Joseph dropped their record down to 18-5 on Saturday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins at home. They fell 8-4 to the San Luis Obispo Tigers. Surprisingly, this marked the Knights' fourth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.
St. Joseph got a good showing from Robbie Roemling, who tossed 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, Roemling gave up only zero walks, the fewest he's had since back in March.
At the plate, St. Joseph saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Niko Peinado, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. That double marked the first that Peinado has hit this season. Another was Erik Furness, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
As for San Luis Obispo, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games.
On San Luis Obispo's side, Joe Isaman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits. Isaman also tossed a walk, which is notable because the Tigers are undefeated when he allows at most one walk, but 6-8 otherwise.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Gabe Vigil, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and one stolen base. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high.
Coming up, St. Joseph will face off against Moorpark at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for San Luis Obispo, they will host Paso Robles at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bearcats will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Tigers surely won't give up without a fight.
