The Vacaville Christian Falcons will face off against the Colusa RedHawks at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Vacaville Christian comes in on ten and Colusa on four.
Vacaville Christian's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They blew past Highlands 14-0. The Falcons might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten games by six runs or more this season.
Isaac Stanley and Zachary Romeo were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, Stanley tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Romeo pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Stanley has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. At the plate, Stanley got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs and two RBI, while Romeo went 3-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three RBI. That's the most hits Romeo has posted since back in February.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Drew Lindsey, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Aiden Stevens, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Colusa). Everything went their way against Willows on Friday as they made off with a 23-3 win. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.
Colusa let Jace MacKaben and Kane Nall run wild. MacKaben went 4-for-5 with one home run, eight RBI, and three runs, while Nall went a perfect 5-for-5 with six RBI, four runs, and one stolen base. Colusa is 2-1 when MacKaben posts two or more runs, but 2-14 otherwise. Rowdy Moore was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Colusa always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Vacaville Christian pushed their record up to 12-4 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.8 runs over those games. As for Colusa, their win bumped their record up to 4-15.
Colusa's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Friday. Vacaville Christian has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 10.2 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Colusa, though, as they've been averaging only 3.1 strikeouts. Will Vacaville Christian keep running through batters, or will the RedHawks buck the trend?
Vacaville Christian suffered a grim 12-0 defeat to Colusa in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Can the Falcons avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
