The Mullen Mustangs will venture away from home to take on the Centaurus Warriors at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Mullen has given up an average of 11.3 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Mullen is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Englewood with a sharp 28-16 victory on Monday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Mustangs.
Roslyn Fresquez was incredible, firing off two home runs, four runs, and five RBI while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits she has posted since back in August. The team also got some help courtesy of Alena Martinez, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs.
They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Mullen lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, after a string of 11 wins, Centaurus' good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They came up short against Brighton, falling 15-3. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Warriors, who until this game were averaging 2.5 runs allowed.
Centaurus saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Morgan Sizemore, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Mullen now has a winning record of 11-10. As for Centaurus, their defeat dropped their record down to 18-2.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Mullen has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Centaurus struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Mullen beat Centaurus 10-7 in their previous meeting back in October of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
