The Deerfield-Windsor Knights will square off against the Citizens Christian Academy Patriots at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Deerfield-Windsor is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.7 runs per game this season.
For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last three times Deerfield-Windsor and Southland Academy have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Thursday. The Knights walked away with a 9-5 win over the Raiders.
Gage Tomlinson was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He pitched 6.1 innings while giving up four earned runs off three hits. Tomlinson was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with three RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Grier Morey was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April. Lan Wiggins was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one double.
Deerfield-Windsor hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in six consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Citizens Christian Academy waltzed into their matchup on Wednesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 2-1 W against Pinewood Christian. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory Citizens Christian Academy has posted since April 14th.
Citizens Christian Academy saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gray McLean, who went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases and one run. McLean has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last seven times he's played.
Citizens Christian Academy pushed their record up to 16-7-2 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Deerfield-Windsor, their win bumped their record up to 15-7-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Deerfield-Windsor has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Citizens Christian Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
