Von Steuben is a perfect 6-0 against Holy Trinity since March of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Panthers will look to defend their home field against the Tigers at 4:30 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.
Von Steuben took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 10-1 margin over Westmont. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Panthers considering their one-run performance the game before.
Wade Miley made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and not a single walk). Miley was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other pitching news, Christian Welk looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
Back at the plate, Von Steuben got a massive performance out of Matteo Banuelos, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. That's the most hits Banuelos has posted since back in April of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of Luis Sequera, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last matchup, Holy Trinity made sure to put some runs up on the board against Farragut on Tuesday. The Tigers put the hurt on the Admirals with a sharp 10-2 win. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Tigers as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Like Von Steuben, Holy Trinity also got a great game from a two-way player: Matt Diaz. He tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Diaz has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Those RBI marked the first that he has brought in this season.
In other batting news, Elijah Mota was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI. That double marked the first that he has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Jarcary Payton, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
The win got Von Steuben back to even at 1-1. As for Holy Trinity, their victory bumped their record up to 2-4.
Everything went Von Steuben's way against Holy Trinity in their previous meeting back in March of 2025, as Von Steuben made off with a 14-2 win. Will the Panthers repeat their success, or do the Tigers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
