Valencia is 3-0 against Castaic since December of 2022, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Valencia Vikings will be playing in front of their home fans against the Castaic Coyotes at 5:00 p.m. Given that both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.
Last Tuesday, Valencia came up short against Saugus and fell 58-45. While losing is never fun, Valencia can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 454th, while Saugus is ranked 205th).
Valencia's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Cara McKell, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds, and Libby Oxciano who scored 12 points along with eight assists and five rebounds. That's the first time this season that Oxciano posted eight or more assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayla Wilcox, who scored seven points.
Meanwhile, Castaic's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their sixth straight loss. They took a serious blow against West Ranch, falling 55-16. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat Castaic has suffered since December 7, 2023.
Valencia has been struggling recently, as they've lost nine of their last 12 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-14 record this season. As for Castaic, they bumped their record down to 2-12 with that defeat, which was their tenth straight on the road.
Everything came up roses for Valencia against Castaic in their previous meeting back in December of 2023 as the squad secured a 69-18 win. With Valencia ahead 45-11 at the half, the match was all but over already.
