Omaha North extended their losing streak to 13 on Thursday, dropping them down to 2-14. They took an 11-8 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Benson Bunnies. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Bunnies this season, with their most recent loss being a 10-4 defeat on Tuesday.
Omaha North saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Anna Bartsch, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Destiny Reyes was another, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
As for Benson, their win bumped their record up to 4-11. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for they considering their two-run performance the contest before.
On Benson's side, Brooke Lynn Kaiser Bates was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed five innings while giving up just one earned (and seven unearned) runs off six hits. Kaiser Bates was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted over her last 15 games.
In other batting news, Benson let McKenzie Lewis and Ariana Bailey run wild. Lewis went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while Bailey went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. Those two hits gave Bailey a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Eryanna Marshall, who earned three RBI and one run.
Coming up, Omaha North will square off against Platteview at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Benson, they will venture away from home to challenge Buena Vista at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
