Monte Vista hasn't had much luck against Foothill recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Mustangs will face off against the Falcons at 4:00 p.m. The last four games Monte Vista has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
On Friday, Monte Vista didn't have quite enough to beat Granada and fell 3-2.
Gavin McMillan was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Monte Vista saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Torin Dunphy, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run.
Meanwhile, Foothill entered their tilt with Livermore on Friday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Cowboys a 6-0 shutout. Considering the Falcons have won four games by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
The result came thanks to Ryan Cooney's shutout, as he gave up just a hit. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Foothill is 4-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 2-3 otherwise.
At the plate, Eli Davidson was excellent, going 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Foothill's success: when he posts at least three hits the team is undefeated (and 3-4 when he doesn't). Matteo Minnite also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Monte Vista's loss dropped their record down to 5-4. As for Foothill, their win bumped their record up to 6-4.
Monte Vista suffered a grim 11-1 defeat to Foothill when the teams last played back in March of 2025. Can the Mustangs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
