Snowflake is 9-1 against Winslow since April of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Lobos will head out on the road to face off against the Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. Snowflake is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.
On Thursday, Snowflake made easy work of Alchesay and carried off a 17-1 win. The Lobos have beaten the Falcons the last nine times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Falcons has come to flipping the script.
Ryker Skousen was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Tate Matthews, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one double.
Snowflake always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .535. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Alchesay only posted an OBP of .333.
Meanwhile, Winslow scored first but ultimately less than Show Low in their contest on Thursday. They came up short against the Cougars, falling 14-5. The Bulldogs have struggled against the Cougars recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.
Winslow also got a good showing from Kori Willie, who tossed 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, Willie gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in March.
On the hitting side, Jeremias Paddock and Aiden Martinez did some serious damage despite the final result: Paddock went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI, while Martinez got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
Snowflake's victory bumped their record up to 12-7-1. As for Winslow, their loss dropped their record down to 3-18.
Winslow's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Snowflake has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.8 hits per game. It's a different story for Winslow, though, as they've been averaging 9.2 hits. Given Snowflake's sizable advantage in that area, the Bulldogs will need to find a way to close that gap.
Snowflake got the 'W' when the teams last played last Tuesday against Winslow by a conclusive 11-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lobos since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
