High school volleyball: Assumption of Kentucky tops dynasty rankings of best programs over past decade

California lands five teams in top 10 with Mater Dei, Marymount, Archbishop Mitty, Torrey Pines and Redondo Union.

Who's been the best high school volleyball program for the past decade? While California dominates the MaxPreps volleyball dynasty rankings with five teams in the Top 10, a Kentucky school holds down the top spot in the Top 100.

Assumption (Louisville, Ky.), with seven Top 10 finishes in the MaxPreps volleyball computer rankings over the past 10 non-COVID seasons also finished No. 1 overall in 2017. Assumption has placed no lower than No. 24 over that time span with 381 wins.

Over his 34-year career Ron Kordes has led Assumption to 22 state titles, six national championships and was recently inducted into the National High School Hall of Fame.

Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) comes in at No. 2 and leads five California schools in the Top 10. Marymount (Los Angeles), last year's MaxPreps National Champion, comes in at No. 3 with Archbishop Mitty (San Jose) at No. 4, Torrey Pines at No. 5 and Redondo Union (Redondo Beach) at No. 10. Texas and Ohio each finished with two teams in the Top 10.

The dynasty rankings were compiled by adding the computer rating for each team for every team in the MaxPreps rankings since 2011 (not including 2020 or the current 2022 season). Schools are listed with their combined computer ratings, which constitutes the overall dynasty ranking.
