The 2024 MaxPreps All Sac-Joaquin Section football team features top players from large and small schools in the region. Selections were based on statistical information, local honors, teams' strength of schedule, and overall impact on the field. We only considered section play for consideration.
Postseason success was a major factor in the selections. We saw three sections repeat in 2024, and four new blue banner winners.
2024 MaxPreps All Sac-Joaquin Section Football TeamPlayer of the YearQB — Ryder Lyons, Folsom, Jr.The junior five-star sensation had another remarkable year for the Division 1 section champions. Lyons will look to three-peat at All-Section Player of the Year in 2025.
Junior Player of the Year
QB — Max Medina, PattersonThe lefty didn't let down after his sophomore campaign. Medina threw for over 3,100 yards and tossed 33 TDs for the D3 section runner-ups.
Sophomore Player of the Year
TE — Zo Edwards, Grant (Sacramento)It's rare for a tight end to earn Player of the Year honors, but that's the type of impact he has on the field. The 6-foot-6 sophomore put on a show during the Pacers 30-28 section title victory over Rocklin.
Freshman of the Year
QB — Scout Silva, TurlockOne of the top field generals in the section, he threw for over 2,500 yards and was also a major weapon with his legs scoring 12 times.
Coaches of the YearSean Leveroos — Summerville (Tuolumne)Guided the Bears to the school's first section title in 2024. The team's closest playoff game was a 26-point victory in the D7 championship.
Kirk Clifton — SonoraA graduate of the school, he took over this year and finished a magical ride by winning five-straight and knocking off both top seeds in the Division 6 bracket.
Chris Bean — Twelve Bridges (Lincoln)It doesn't matter if the school is new as long as you have a good foundation of coaches and players, and that's what the Rhinos have. Bean helped guide his squad to a perfect season and scored at least 40 points during their SJS playoff run.
First Team OffenseQB — Kalani McLeod, Vanden (Fairfield), Sr.Had his best game in the biggest moment, tossing six TDs and over 480 yards during the Vikings 49-35 win over Oakdale in the D3 title game.
QB — Luke Alexander, Grant, Sr.Threw nine touchdown passes in the three SJS playoff games, including four against Rocklin in the D2 section title game. He had at least one TD pass in every game this season.
QB — Robert McDaniel, Hughson, Sr.The UCLA signee finished his stellar career passing for over 7,800 yards and 96 touchdown passes. He finished with 72 TD passes in section play this fall.
RB — Wes Burford, Oakdale, Jr.The junior never left the field for the Mustangs and still led the section in rushing yards with 2,678. He rushed for 150 yards or more in all but one game this season.
RB — Braeden Ward, Twelve Bridges, Sr. A touchdown machine for the D4 section champs. Ward scored 39 times including at least three house calls in the final six games.
RB — Isaiah Ene, Granite Bay, Jr.Rushed for 1,400 yards and scored 21 times against some of the toughest competition in the section.
WR — Logan Bailey, Vanden, Sr.Cemented his spot on the first-team after his eye-popping performance in the D3 section title game. He caught 14 passes for 258 yards and three TDs.
WR — Jameson Powell, Folsom, Jr.The junior is one of the toughest cover in the entire state. Powell had a two-game stretch against Rocklin and Oak Ridge where he hauled in 13 passes for 198 yards and four touchdowns.
WR — Koby Shabazz Grant, So.Clearly put his name on the map in the D2 section title game, pulling in some unreal catches. He caught at least one TD grab in 11-straight games.
TE — Taniela Tupou, Folsom, Sr.The USC signee did work on the line and as a big target for the Bulldogs. The 6-foot-4 tight end caught 12 TDs.
OL — Garrison Blank, Rocklin, Sr.The 6-foot-7, 298-pound tackle was a beast for the Thunder. The UCLA signee was a huge reason the Thunder rushed for over 2,600 yards.
OL — Colton Hogge, Twelve Bridges, Jr.The entire Raging Rhino offensive line deserves credit for the success they had on offense all season long. Hogge was a big reason the team rushed for over 4,000 yards.
OL — Vlad Dyakonov, Folsom, Jr.The 6-foot-6, 250 pound tackle was one of many studs on the line for the Bulldogs. The three-star is one of many key players returning in 2025.
OL — Broden Bush, Oakdale, Jr.It all starts up front for the Mustangs. The team rushed the ball 556 times this season, compared to only 50 pass attempts.
ATH — Isaiah Rodriguez, Twelve Bridges, Sr.When the Rhinos needed a big play, they often called on him. He hauled in 13 touchdown passes and was a big force on the defensive side of the ball.
K — Emanuel Garibay, Sonora, Sr.The senior kicker nailed 74 of 76 PATs and hit nine field goals, including a long of 46.
First Team DefenseDL — Jeremiah Tuiileila Grant, Sr.The edge rusher was one of the most feared defensive players in the section. The three-star will play next fall at San Diego State.
DL — Theo Greule, Folsom, Sr.One of the toughest defenders in the trenches in the section for the Bulldogs. He and his fellow teammates made it near impossible to run on.
DL — Manaalii Danielson, St. Mary's (Stockton), Sr.The edge rusher for the Rams finished his prep career with 21 sacks and 39 tackles for a loss.
DL — Darren Dalton, Casa Roble (Orangevale), Sr.Racked up 14 sacks at nose guard and was in on 117 tackles for the Rams.
DL — Kaleb Edwards, Oak Ridge (El Dorado Hills), Sr.The Alabama commit was a playmaker on both sides of the ball. The 6-foot-6 dual sport athlete finished with 8.5 sacks.
LB — Josiah Campbell, Christian Brothers (Sacramento), Sr.One of the top tacklers in the entire state. The senior was in on 166 tackles, which led the section.
LB — Brody Krupp, Woodcreek (Roseville), Sr.The centerpiece of the Timberwolves defense with over 100 tackles on the season. In a game against Christian Brothers, Krupp had 25 tackles, 18 of which were solo.
LB — Derek Keeley, Rocklin, Sr.Did it all for the Thunder. He was one of their top running backs with nearly 1,100 yards. He also had over 100 tackles and four interceptions.
LB — Ryan Wanger, Twelve Bridges, Sr.The backer was all over the field for the Rhinos as he was in on 107 tackles.
LB — Dean Davis, Oak Ridge, Sr.Flew around the field for the Trojans, finished 2024 with six games in which he finished with 10 or more tackles.
DB — Isaiah Jordan, Christian Brothers, Sr.A playmaker for the Falcons all season long. He was a big-time wideout and also a shutdown player in the secondary.
DB — Baylor Kelley, Placer (Auburn), Sr.Scored 26 touchdowns on the offensive side of the ball, but was a huge force on defense. He hardly left the field for the Hillmen.
DB — Jasen Womack, Oak Ridge, Jr.Can make a case he was the MVP of the Trojans team. He made plays as a weapon on offense, but he shined on defense. He showed his talent with two picks in the section title game against Folsom.
DB — Cash Byington, Sonora, Jr.Cash was money on both sides of the ball. He is one of those players who could have made the first team as a running back or as lockdown defensive back.
DB — Lono Chouteau, Inderkum (Sacramento), Sr.A do-it-all player for the Tigers, he hauled in 12 TDs as a wide receiver and was a player offenses feared when he was in the secondary.
