PHOTOS: High school football at Fenway Park

Home of the Red Sox since 1912, venerable stadium hosted four prep games during Thanksgiving week. See photos below.

Under the shadow of Fenway Park's iconic Green Monster, players from eight high school football teams in Massachusetts experienced a storybook ending to their seasons and careers over Thanksgiving week.

The historic ballpark opened in 1912 and the players entered the field through the same dugouts used by Boston Red Sox legends like Babe Ruth, Roger Clemens, Ted Williams and Manny Ramirez.


The action began Tuesday with Nantucket vs. Martha's Vineyard Regional (Oak Bluffs) followed by Reading Memorial (Reading) vs. Stoneham. On Wednesday, Central Catholic (Lawrence) faced Lawrence while Swampscott took on Marblehead.

Fenway Park's history with football runs as deep as its baseball lore. The stadium first hosted high school football in its inaugural year, including a clash between Everett (Mass.) and Oak Park (Ill.), dubbed as the "National Scholastic Championship in Football" by The Boston Globe.

Notre Dame and Boston College are among storied college programs to have played games at Fenway. From 1933 to 1968, the park hosted 90 NFL games, even serving as the first home of the New England Patriots.
