McCluer North is a perfect 10-0 against Hazelwood East since September of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Stars will face off against the Spartans at 4:15 p.m. McCluer North knows how to get runs on the board -- the squad has finished with ten runs or more in their past seven matchups -- so hopefully Hazelwood East likes a good challenge.
If McCluer North beats Hazelwood East with 20 runs on Thursday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two contests with that exact score. The Stars put the hurt on Hazelwood Central with a sharp 20-0 win on Tuesday. The Stars have beaten the Hawks the last six times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Hawks has come to flipping the script.
Amya Adams was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Adams was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs.
In other batting news, Lalia Flowers was incredible, going 3-for-4 with five RBI, three runs, and one triple. Marayah Taylor was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
McCluer North was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .545. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Hazelwood East came up short against Clayton on Tuesday, falling 18-8. The Spartans haven't had much luck with the Greyhounds recently, as the team has come up short the last seven times they've met.
Riley Mayfield led a balanced group of hitters, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylor Turner, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with four stolen bases and two runs.
McCluer North's record now sits at 7-0. As for Hazelwood East, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-5.
Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. McCluer North hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .507. However, it's not like Hazelwood East struggles in that department as they've averaged .500. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went McCluer North's way against Hazelwood East in their previous meeting back in September, as McCluer North made off with a 16-4 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Stars since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
