The Cerritos Dons are taking a road trip to take on the Los Alamitos Griffins at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Cerritos is coming into the game hot, having won their last six games.
If Cerritos beats Los Alamitos with ten runs on Wednesday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two matchups with that exact score. The Dons put the hurt on Whitney with a sharp 10-0 win on Tuesday. The Dons might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 contests by six runs or more this season.
Jacob Hoosac tossed a big game, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Alex Laurin was a standout: he got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Justin Sagun, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.
Cerritos always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .531. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Whitney only posted an OBP of .176.
Meanwhile, Los Alamitos hadn't done well against Huntington Beach recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Griffins walked away with a 7-4 victory over the Oilers.
Los Alamitos also got a great performance from Logan Anderson as he struck out six batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits (and only one walk).
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Gerardo Garfiaz, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI. Cruz D' Errico was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
Cerritos' record is now 16-6. As for Los Alamitos, they now have a winning record of 13-12.
Cerritos' speedy runners might be the difference in Wednesday's game. The Dons have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.1 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Los Alamitos, though, as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Cerritos continue to outrun the ball?
Cerritos came up short against Los Alamitos in their previous meeting back in March of 2023, falling 8-4. Can the Dons avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
