The Santiago Cavaliers lost against the Loara Saxons two weeks ago, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. Santiago fell just short of the Saxons by a score of 38-35. Santiago has struggled against the Saxons recently, as their match on Tuesday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Loara found their leader in underclassman Sophia Rangel, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 12 rebounds. Rangel has been hot recently, having posted nine or more rebounds the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Laila Walker, who scored seven points along with eight rebounds.
Santiago's defeat dropped their record down to 9-17. As for Loara, the victory (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 17-8.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Santiago will take on the Lobos at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Loara, they will head out on the road to take on the Vaqueros at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Rancho Alamitos will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 1147th, while the Saxons are ranked 549th).
